Synopsis
Capture Oakville: Celebrating Photography and Community
Since its beginnings as a small print exhibition in 2007, the Capture Oakville Photography Competition has grown into one of Oakville’s leading celebrations of photography and visual storytelling. Presented by the Oakville Camera Club (OCC), the event showcases creativity, artistic excellence, and community connection through the lens of photographers of all skill levels.
As Oakville’s only dedicated photography club, OCC provides opportunities for photographers using everything from smartphones to professional cameras to develop their craft, share their work, and connect with others who share a passion for photography.
The Competition
Capture Oakville welcomes participants from across Oakville and Ontario, offering categories that encourage both technical skill and creative expression. All entries are evaluated by jurors certified through the Canadian Association of Photographic Arts (CAPA), ensuring a professional and respected judging process.
The Exhibition and Gala
The competition culminates in an Awards Gala and Exhibition at the Queen Elizabeth Park Cultural and Community Centre, where photographers, community leaders, families, and arts supporters gather to celebrate the winning images. The exhibition remains on display in the Main Gallery, giving visitors the opportunity to experience a diverse collection of landscapes, portraits, wildlife, and storytelling photography.
For many emerging photographers, exhibiting in a professional gallery is a meaningful milestone that inspires future creative growth.
Community Impact
With the continued support of the Oakville Arts Council, Capture Oakville strengthens Oakville’s cultural community by bringing together photographers, artists, and residents in a celebration of creativity and visual art. The event provides opportunities for learning, recognition, and artistic expression while making photography accessible to everyone.
Looking Ahead to 2027 and Beyond
As we look toward Capture Oakville 2027 and future editions, we remain committed to expanding opportunities for photographers and enriching Oakville’s cultural landscape. Through the ongoing support of our partners, sponsors, volunteers, and the Oakville Arts Council, Capture Oakville will continue to inspire creativity, showcase local talent, and celebrate the power of photography for years to come.
